A good writer turns fact into truth.
— Edward Albee

Why work with words?

Good communication is about messages, audiences and timing, but great communication is about more: it's about affecting emotions and shaping decisions. It’s about well-crafted words and impactful images working in perfect unison. It’s about taking the facts and elevating them into a ‘truth’ that resonates with a real person in pursuit of a particular objective, whether that’s to drive sales, influence opinion or simply get your voice heard.

Tom Hawkins

I'm a former journalist with two decades of experience in content and communications roles. My writing has been published in titles including The Independent, Huffington Post and City AM as well as numerous professional publications such as Campaign and The Grocer.

As head of content and communications at the Professional Publishers Association, I was responsible for editorial output across digital and social channels, and managing major projects in print.

I have experience of working agency-side in B2B public relations, having begun my career working in PR for a full-service marketing agency. I started Work With Words in 2018, realising a long-held ambition to work as a freelance copywriter.

At weekends, if not ferrying my daughters to swimming or gymnastics, you're likely to find me on two wheels somewhere in the beautiful Kent countryside.
